Whilst this may have been elegant and aesthetically appealing, over time simpler styles were considered more appropriate in terms of the ease with which children could learn to write.

In most countries, the courts have received advice as to how they should go about this because forensic evidence is widely recognised as being particularly valuable in many cases in assisting the court in its deliberations. Three of the key concerns are: (i) the robustness of the knowledge underpinning the specialty, (ii) the competence of the individual practitioner in front of the court and (iii) the relevance of the evidence to the case.
